City of Tahlequah

In 2020, I had the opportunity to bring in some color to the City Hall in Tahlequah, OK. They felt dreary since the start of Covid and needed something to inspire their office, and townspeople, again after finally returning to work.

The concept was simple; Tahlequah is diverse and hard-working. We needed art that reflected the best qualities of the city while being inclusive and on brand. From that, “Hands of a Community” was born. The people lift up the city and bring in all of its beauty while the city gives them purpose. They work together, hand in hand, to inspire each other. (Yes, the pun was intended.)

The darkest portion of the art is the official Tahlequah city logo. Although Tahlequah is rich in Native American history, primarily with the Cherokee Tribe, the city wanted something that included all of the people that made the city great. Diversity and inclusion inspired the color palette, mimicking the state logo.

Upon completing “Hands of a Community” within City Hall, they wanted to bring the art outside so anyone could enjoy it whenever they wanted. The second rendition of “Hands of a Community” can be seen on a fence in Norris Park, Tahlequah.
